Dr. David Groves, BSc, PhD, Geology
Dr. Groves, BSc Honours and PhD, started his career working for the Geological Survey of Tasmania. In 1972, he joined the University of Western Australia where he progressed to full Professor by 1987, teaching undergraduate classes in field and structural geology and ore genesis/economic geology. From 1987 to 2005, Dr. Groves was Director of both the Centre for Strategic Mineral Deposits and Centre for Global Metallogeny. During his academic career, he authored and co-authored over 500 papers and is widely published on Archaean evolution, the nature and genesis of komatiite-hosted Ni-Cu and orogenic gold deposits, global metallogeny and conceptual targeting of mineral deposits. He was President of the Geological Society of Australia and the Society of Economic Geologists, and is currently President-Elect of SGA (European Society of Economic Geologists). He has received nine medals for his research, including the Silver Medal of the Society of Economic Geologists and the Geological Association of Canada Medal. Dr. Groves has also been contracted as a consultant to the Geological Survey of Tanzania.
